JHANSI:  In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh, Eight men brutally gang-raped a middle-aged woman in front of her husband who was tied with ropes.

On Thursday (4th May) night in Jalaun district, a middle age woman was allegedly gang raped and robbed while she was travelling with her husband and dumped on Auraiya-Jalaun highway. Artisans workers in Jaipur was travelling back home Jalaun. According to Police, They reached Auraiya by train around Thursday midnight and were looking for a public transport, when the driver of a loader van offered them a lift.

As per the complaint lodged by the woman, the incident took place on May 4 in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh. After offering lift to couple, the driver stopped the van for a while at a roadside liquor shop from where a few more people boarded the vehicle.

Then he took the van to a schedule spot where all the eight men first tied the woman’s husband and took turns to rape her one by one.

They also looted all the valuables, and then dump the couple on Auraiya-Jalaun highway, they threatened them with dire consequences.

The couple approached the Jalaun police and narrated the entire incident.

A case has been registered against the culprits under section 376D and 395 of the Indian Penal Code and the victim has been sent for medical examination, police said.

“A FIR has been lodged against eight unidentified men for gang-rape and dacoity. We will arrest the culprits soon,” Jalaun Additional Superintendent of Police SC Shakya told TOI.

The incident comes as a grim reminder of how crime-prone and unsafe the highways of Uttar Pradesh are. In 2016, a similar incident that occurred on the Delhi-Kanpur national highway 91 in Bulandshahr had rocked the nation when a woman and her daughter were gang-raped while the family from Noida was travelling to Shajehanpur.
