Over 1 lakh licensed weapons deposited

Ever since the promulgation of the Model Code of Conduct on March 5 in view of coming Lok Sabha polls, 1,03,610 licensed weapons have been deposited while 828 licensed weapons have been seized and 216 arms licenses cancelled.

The measures are a part of large-scale security arrangements being undertaken to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, an official release said yesterday.

Besides, 7,366 non-bailable warrants have been issued including 1,104 in the past 24 hours. Similarly, 3,313 illegal weapons have been seized.
In addition to it, action has been taken under various sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC ) against 24,216 people so far and 13,720 people have been bound over. Action was taken against 82 persons for violating this provision. In police action, explosives of two types have been seized. Besides, three different kinds of bombs and 204 live cartridges have also been seized.

As many as 199 check posts have been set up in view of security in Vidhan Sabha constituencies. In all, 1,540 majra-tolas have been identified under vulnerability mapping. Similarly, 5,768 people who can harass voters have also been identified. Prohibitory action has been taken against 992 such persons. UNI PS SV VN1407 NNNN
