AR seizes contraband items, 3 held

Imphal, January 18 2015: Based on specific intelligence regarding ferrying of contraband items, troops of the 6 DOGRA of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) established a vehicle check post at Kangbarol – Chayang road and apprehended three individuals carrying contraband Ginseng weighing 823.5 kgs on January15, according to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) .

The PRO said that a suspicious vehicle, a green coloured Khundagari (Shaktiman) bearing Registration Number DIS- 260, traveling from Sugnu village to Laijing village was stopped for checking, and a thorough search of the vehicle led to recovery of 35.5 kgs of Ginseng (Locally known as Kachu, Baal) worth Rs 2,13,000, 788 kgs of Herb Ginseng (Locally known as pacha) worth Rs 7,58,000 along with Rs 55,600 in cash and three mobile phones with four SIM cards from their possession.

The apprehendees were identified as Thongpao Mate, S/o Hemkhothang Mate, aged 47 yrs, resident of D Mounnaphai, village – Tengnoupal, Teh – Moreh, Dist- Chandel; Himkholen, S/o Holkhothang, aged 23 yrs, resident of Tuinoi, Part I, Dist- CCpur and Minlal, S/o Paoncam, aged 24 yrs, resident of Galmol village, Dist – CCpur.

The apprehendees alongwith the recovered items have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau Imphal, the PRO added.
