Manipur to Have Anti-Terrorist School

Manipur government has taken up necessary steps to open a Counter Insurgency and Anti Terrorist (CIAT) School at Jiribam sub-divisional headquarters bordering Assam’s Cachar district.

The state Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh chaired cabinet meeting held recently has also decided to recruit 15 instructors cum trainers on contract basis for the CIAT. The instructors/trainers will be recruited among those ex­-servicemen who had served in the State and Central Force. The selected instructors will provide intensive commando training to Manipur Police personnel for about 9 weeks at the CIAT Jiribam.

This was informed by the government’s spokesperson and Education and CAF & PD Minister Moirangthem Okendro while speaking to media after the day’s cabinet meeting. So far 15 candidates out of 19 have been shortlisted for the instructors’ posts by a selection committee of the government after the list was tabled in front of committee of officers’ meeting in Imphal, Minister Okendro added.

On the other hand the state government’s first Medical College -Jawaherlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal will open Post Graduate (PG) courses in four more departments from the current academic session 2015­16 after the Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved the proposal. As a result the state cabinet in its meeting today started to discuss the admission procedure for the said courses.

The admission procedure will be completed by May 31 this year.The said four departments include Pathology, Micro­biology, Pharmacology and Bio-chemistry. Each department will have 2 PG seats each.There will be 50 percent seat reserved for central pool while the remaining for the state. It may be noted that Manipur Chief Minister led JNIMS society has started to run JNIMS at Porompat campus in Imphal from December 18,2007. The state health minister is the vice chairman of the society.
