Seven NSCN-K Cadres Killed in Nagaland

August 29: At least eight people were killed and three injured in an ambush involving the 23rd Assam Rifles and the NSCN (K) at International Trade Centre (ITC) Dan, Pangsha area under Noklak HQ. Seven were killed on the spot, while the other one succumbed to bullet injuries.

is some 30 kilometers away from Noklak town and is the last village under Tuensang district of Nagaland bordering Myanmar. The firing
occurred in the back drop of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) scheduled meeting on Saturday with the NSCN (K) leaders at the border area.

According to the Assam Rifles, seven NSCN (K) cadres, including a woman cadre were killed. However, sources informed that one
civilian was killed while two other civilians, both women, were injured in the ambush. Right after the ambush carried out by the security
forces, there was intermittent firing between the security forces and the NSCN (K).

The NSCN (K) cadres were reportedly on their way to Henpo (Ponyu), a Khiamniungan village under Myanmar on a Maruti Gypsy, a
Mahindra Bolero pick-up and a bike when they were attacked by the security forces. Sources from Pangsha said the security forces were lying in wait since Thursday evening. The attack took place in an area between ITC Dan rest house and the helipad.

The three civilians who were injured were taken to New Pangsha PHC by villagers who reached the site of incident after hearing the firing. A health-mela was going on at New Pangsha at the time the firing occurred. One of the civilian hailing from Konyak community, reportedly a businessman, succumbed to injuries at Pangsha Primary Health Centre (PHC). He had sustained bullet injuries in the stomach and shoulder.

The second civilian, a girl aged around 18-19 years was shot in the chest. Hailing from Henpo village, she had come for a medical check-up at the Pangsha health camp and had hitched a ride-back to her village on one of the vehicles when the attack took place.

The third civilian injured, reported to be the wife of a NSCN (K) leader, sustained injury on the leg. Both the injured havebeen shifted to Tuensang Civil hospital, the source said.

Other sources stated that among those killed in the ambush was a Major of NSCN (K) and his wife. However, this could not be confirmed.
