IED on Deputy Chief Minister’s Convoy Route: Manipur

Feb 01: A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detected along the Tiddim road prior to the movement of Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Gaikhangam Gangmei, who was scheduled to travel through the same route.

Sources said that the Deputy Chief Minister was scheduled to attend a programme at Leimaram Sadu Chiru, Manipur around 9.30 pm.

The bomb was detected around 8 am in between Meitram Awang Leikai and Bamdier Lamkhai Nambol Police Station by an ROP team comprising of Bishnupur police and commando unit of the district.

Detection of the bomb halted traffic along the busy Tiddim road for about an hour.

The IED fitted in a Tin-can was found planted at the road side along the highway and approximately weighed around two kilogram.

The bomb was defuse and retrieve for the VIP to continue his journey, and later detonated at a safe place.

On the other hand, a hand grenade was detected at the Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai residence of an official of the CAF&PD department last night around 10 pm under Singjamei police station.

The residence belonged to one Chongtham Gunachandra Sing, 58, a store keeper of the CAF&PD.

A team of the concerned police reportedly retrieved the grenade late at night.
