Nagaland: Govt Prepared to Bring NSCN (K) Under Cease Fire

Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang said the state government was willing and prepared to play a role in bringing NSCN (K) back to
cease-fire (CF) with Government of India to restart the process of dialogue.

He said this at the celebration programme to recognize Aboi Town Council at Aboi, on Wednesday.

While lauding the NSCN (K) participation at the ceasefire agreement programme in Myanmar, Zeliang expressed the hope that it would also re-enter a cease-fire with the Government of India so that peace could prevail in Nagaland.

Lamenting upon the resurgence of bloodshed, after abrogation of cease-fire, the chief minister urged upon the NSCN (K) to shun violence and join the negotiating table in order to solve problem through peaceful means.

He reminded that there has been no record in the history, where killings had solved problems. Once NSCN(K) decides to restore the cease-fire, Zeliang assured that he would play his role in lifting the banned imposed on them.

According to CMO media cell, Zeliang said: “Gun has not given us any solution for the past six decades therefore, the only way to find out permanent solution is dialogue”.

He also reiterated that when the Indian Prime Minister was ready to solve the issue through dialogue, Nagas must also keenly
reciprocate.

Zeliang urged upon Nagas to grasp the opportunity and collectively work towards solution so as not to create any imbroglio among the Nagas, at a time when Government of India under Prime Ministership Narendra Modi was committed for early settlement of the
Naga political issue.

He also asserted that as long as the gun culture prevailed in the state, Nagas will never progress and added, that the only means to put an end to gun culture was in finding an early solution to the Naga political problem.

The chief minister also reiterated that the Naga political issue was not for a particular faction or tribe but for the benefit of the whole Nagas.

“The sooner we solve this problem the sooner we will have permanent peace. But if we prolong I am apprehensive that more arm group will come up and it will create more trouble”, he added.

Chief minister further said that when all the 60 legislators of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, cutting across the party line, have collectively come together to foster the early settlement of Indo-Naga political issue, people should render fullest support.

He also disclosed the gathering that not only the 60 legislators but all the tribal hohos, civil societies and NGOs have decided to work collectively for finding out early solution.

“Solution is possible only when we work together and this consensus at the highest level must percolate down to the grass root level,” said Zeliang.

On the development front, Zeliang said government and public should work together while admitting that the state was going through fiscal crunch due to change of funding pattern at the Centre with the formation of NITI Aayog.

However, he expressed confident that within 2-3 month time, the state financial position will improve.

Zeliang also said, he would be convening meeting with the women group to settlethe issue of 33% reservation in civic bodies in the state.

He said election to Municipal and Town Council could not be held due to case pending in the Supreme Court and the state could not avail funds till disposal of the case.

NPF president and DAN chairman Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu described the celebration as a red letter day for the citizens of Aboi town.

He urged upon the people and the Town Council to educate each other in order to have a sense of belonging and cleanliness, to develop the town.

He also advised them to change their mind set as with the upgradation of the Town Council demanded proper arrangement and planning for the future extension of the town.

Parliamentary secretaries, R. Tohanba and Eshak Konyak, ex-minister, Nyeiwang Konyak and Shakwang Angh also spoke on the occasion.
