Obama urges Congress to reinstate assault weapons ban

There is so much hatred and so many guns in the United States that it is hard to see anything but a bad ending.

Mentally ill people or those wishing to harm Americans should not be able to buy, own or purchase firearms, let alone assault weapons. It was conducted in the aftermath of the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., in which a couple used assault rifles to kill 14 people and wound 21 more.

“You don’t have to buy with a license, because guns are so easily available from illegal sources”, said Binalakshmi Nepram, secretary general of the Control Arms Foundation of India. “It is the gold standard for killing the enemy in battle, just as it has become the gold standard for mass murder of innocent civilians”. The speed and design of the semi-automatic gun is what makes it so lethal.

Congress put a ban in place in 1994 but allowed it to expire in 2004. Sunday’s attack also brought controversy over America’s immigration policy.

Part of the problem confronting the Federal Bureau of Investigation is that terror watch list too broad and has too many people listed on it, said Michael German, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent. The Republican-led Congress must also act.

Obama denounced the idea on Tuesday. “And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country that we want to be”, Obama said. “It does not reflect our democratic ideals”.

After the Orlando mass shooting, Hilary Clinton said: “If the Federal Bureau of Investigation is watching you for suspected terrorist links, you shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked”.

Attorney Josh Koskoff, who represents the families of some of the Newtown victims in a lawsuit against gun manufacturers, says the slaughter in Orlando represents “more horrific evidence of the unique lethality of the AR-15”.

ISIS terror handbooks and training have highlighted lax USA gun regulations and have encouraged their followers to take advantage of the those gun purchasing loopholes to obtain weapons needed to carry out mass mayhem.
