Six hurt in grenade attack

Imphal, December 09 2016: At least six persons including two minors have been injured when some miscreants hurled a hand grenade at a private residence at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai.

According to information culled from the spot, some miscreants hurled a hand grenade at the residence of one Akoijam Brojen (40) at around 6.25 pm.

The grenade fell and exploded over a thatched roof which covered a portion of Brojen’s courtyard.

It is reported that Brojen works in Manipur Police.

Altogether six persons were injured in the attack.

They have been identified as Huirongbam Priyosakhi (75) w/o late Gouro, Akoijam Abena (28) w/o Kishorchand, Akoijam Dania (13) s/o Brojen, Longjam (O) Pepe (28) w/o Romeo, her 18 months old daughter and Thongam Bicha alias Babita (35) w/o John.

While the first five victims belong to Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, the sixth belongs to Kha Naorem Leikai.

Priyosakhi and the 18 months old baby sustained critical injuries and they have been taken to Shija Hospital.

While two others are undergoing treatment at RIMS, two have been discharged.

They were first taken to Iboyaima Hospital and Research Institute.

On the other hand, one man allegedly involved in carrying out the grenade attack was rounded up by local people, thrashed and later handed over to police.

The alleged assailant has been identified as Md Imran Khan (25) s/o Ibungo of Khurai Chingya Hannaching.

A case has been registered at Singjamei police station in connection with the incident.
