Killings won’t bring any solution: Ibobi

Imphal, February 18 2017: Chief Minister O Ibobi, addressing militant groups active in the hills and valley of Manipur, has categorically stated that killing people in pursuit of their demands cannot bring any kind of solution.

He was speaking at a flag hoisting ceremony of Congress candidate in Chingai AC Preshow Shimray held today at Nagaram, Sunny Villa.

Even if killing people can help achieve some goals temporarily, violence will not bring anything positive at the end.

As such, peaceful dialogue is the best option to resolve any conflict or issue, Ibobi asserted.

“If a group’s political goals can be achieved by killing people, there are many people who are not afraid to die and that includes me”, stated the Chief Minister.

Violent confrontation between the hill people and plain people will not bring anything positive.

Rather, all the people should focus on promoting communal harmony and unity.

There is no question of giving away any portion of the State’s territory to any particular community and no community should ever claim exclusive ownership over any part of Manipur, Ibobi continued.

All the people should understand that the whole territory of Manipur belongs to the Government, and the entire population of the State need to focus their energy and time on peaceful co-existence and collective development.

The State Government would not remain silent when any group demands any portion of the State’s territory.

The Congress has been working and continue to work to promote unity and uniform development of all the communities settled in the State, Ibobi added.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam asserted that only peaceful environment and love for fellow human beings can pave way for  effective solutions to all issues.

Rather than conspiring to ignite internecine killings, all communities should work collectively to promote communal harmony and the idea of oneness.

The State could not achieve the desired pace of development because a handful of people have been paying extra attention to trivial matters.

The inability to see and appreciate the many development works implemented by the Congress in the hills and valley is a manifestation of sheer negativity, Gaikhangam remarked.

He stated that development and progress cannot be achieved without hopes and vision.

Preshow Shimray said he is confident that Congress party would emerge victorious in the ensuing 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election as the people are committed to face all kinds of threats and intimidations which emanate from different quarters.
