AR Jawan Held for Harassing Meghalaya Woman on Kerala Train

February 20, 2017: A soldier was on Monday arrested in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala for allegedly harassing a woman passenger from Meghalaya during a train journey on February 17, police said.

32-year-old Simson, a jawan with the Assam Rifles, was last night taken into custody from Ernakulam.
His arrest was recorded this morning after the woman identified him, police said.

The 30-year-old woman from Tura in her complaint had stated that she was assaulted and verbally abused by the man, who was in
an inebriated state, during the journey in the Second AC compartment of the Guwahati-Thiruvananthapuram Express on February 17.

The man had alighted at Ernakulam, while the woman, who was travelling to Thiruvananthapuram, filed the complaint with the Railway police after reaching Thiruvananthapuram.

A case under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) had been registered against Simson. The incident comes close on the heels of alleged abduction and harassment of a popular Malayalam actress in Kochi.
