‘IM cadre’ killed, 4 hurt in separate gunfights

Imphal, February 23 2017: At least one NSCN (IM) cadre was reportedly killed and four persons including a woman were injured in two separate gunfights that took place in different locations under Khoupum police station in Noney district today.

According to sources, the first gunfight occurred between suspected NSCN (IM) cadres and 2/5 Gorkha Rifles at Khoupum Chingthak at around 4.30 am .

Personnel of 2/5 GR were going to the village to conduct search operation on receipt of reliable information about the presence of well armed underground cadres at the village when they were attacked by suspected NSCN (IM) cadres who were armed with sophisticated weapons.

The army personnel retaliated, ensuing a fierce gunfight in which one cadre of the outfit was killed and another cadre suffered injuries.

The deceased is believed to be one self-style Sergeant Solomon of Nungnang village, Tamenglong district and the injured cadre as self-style Lieutenant Kahaulun of Bamgaijang village.

The sources said a woman from the village identified as Ajingna Rongmei (50) w/o Hajengrei Rongmei sustained injuries after she was hit by a bullet on her face in the cross firing.

Ajingna was taken to 2/5 GR Khoupum post for first aid treatment.

Later she was admitted to Raj Medicity with serious facial injuries.

The second gunfight reportedly took place between NSCN (IM) and ZUF cadres.

According to sources, NSCN (IM) cadres were on their way to Nungba to get treatment for the injured cadre in the first gunfight when heavily armed ZUF cadres laid an ambush upon them from three different directions.

Two NSCN (IM) cadres were wounded in the attack.

They are believed to be Tanripou of Dialing village, Tamenglong and Lanjaising of Noney.
