8 injured in blast in Manipur

At least eight persons were injured in a blast here on Thursday.

According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the blast occurred near the temporary residence of National People’s Front (NPF) candidate Leoshiyo Lanthungching in Phangyar assembly constituency.

The incident comes just two days before the state of Manipur goes for two-phased polls on March 4 and March 8 respectively.

The term of the current state assembly expires on March 18, 2017.

The last election in Manipur was held in 2012.

The Congress had then won 42 seats and Okram Ibobi Singh was re-elected as the chief minister.
