AR men assault two at Kangpokpi district

KANGPOKPI, Mar 22 : Two men were severely assaulted by Assam Rifles personnel yesterday evening at Kangpokpi district.
The two victims who are presently hospitalized at CHC, Kangpokpi told media persons that they were picked up yesterday evening at around 5.30 near Traffic Point in downtown Kangpokpi, IT Road by some 38 Assam Rifles personnel in civil dress.

The two were taken to Yaikongpao village where they brutally assaulted behind Yaikongpao UJB School after they were blind-folded, the duo alleged.

The two victims are identified as Lamgoulen Kipgen (27), s/o Seitinmang Kipgen of Songjang Pakang village under T Waichong sub-division in Kangpokpi district and Lunkhomang Kipgen (26), s/o (L) Lalpao Kipgen of Lhangnomphai village in Saitu-Gamphazol sub-division.

Lamgoulen Kipgen is the general secretary of Songjang Pakang Youth Club while Lunkhomang Kipgen is the chief of Lhangnomphai village. With bruise marks all over their thighs and hips the two were admitted at CHC, Kangpokpi yesterday evening itself after they were released by the AR personnel at different location and time. Meanwhile, civil society organizations of Kangpokpi district have condemned the alleged brutality of the 38 Assam Rifles personnel.

The 38 Assam Rifles should seek apology before the court of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district according to the Kuki customary law on or before March 24, the CSOs stated while cautioning that, in case of failure, FIR will be lodged again them. It also asked the Assam Rifles personnel never to commit such scandalous activities in future.
