Sushma Swaraj Calls Yogi Adityanath After Assault on Nigerians

28 March 2017: A day after Nigerian students held a protest over being accused of cannibalism and being booked for killing 19-year-old Manish Khari, several African nationals were attacked and a Nigerian woman was allegedly abducted in Greater Noida on Monday.

Khari died of “unknown poisoning” in a private hospital on Saturday. Some locals alleged that an African national had forced the Class XII student to inhale a substance, following which the teen lost consciousness. Five Nigerian students were then booked for murder, kidnapping and drug charges.

According to a Hindustan Times report, a protesting mob assaulted some African nationals near Pari chowk. Police later arrested around five people for inciting violence.

The woman, who had been reportedly abducted, was traced to a hospital later that night. Police chief Dharmendra Singh refuted the kidnapping claim and called it “a rumour to escalate tension in the area”.

Video of Brutal Assault Emerges Online

On 27 March, the Association of African Students in India posted a video of more African nationals being attacked at Ansal Plaza in Greater Noida.
