May 26, 2017: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly molested on Wednesday evening in Gurgaon, just 300 metres away from the police commissioner’s office. She says nobody, not even the traffic police, came to help.

Crime against women from the North-East continues in the Millennium city Gurugram (Gurgaon).

Two persons allegedly grabbed hold of and molested a 30-year-old woman, who hails from Darjeeling, on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at Sohna Adda Chowk, just 300m away from the police commissioner’s office.

The victim, employed as a nurse in a prominent private hospital, after completion of her shift, was walking towards her rented flat at Madanpuri, when the miscreants appeared from behind. It has been alleged that the incident took place even after traffic constables were present there.

“I had just de-boarded an auto at Sohna Adda Chowk around 7.30pm. I started walking towards my flat, when they appeared from behind and grabbed hold of me.

‘NONE CAME TO HELP’

“I shouted for help and there were number of people present, besides traffic policemen, but none came to help. The accused easily walked away and no one even tried to chase them,” the victim explained.

“I was extremely frightened, not only because of the incident, but also having witnessed the shocking fact that not even the cops came to my rescue.

“The situation is quite scary now, considering the fact that the walkway is my regular one. It’s the lone route I take while returning home every day,” she said.

Since, none came to her rescue, she chose to go to the office of “Crime India Force”, seeking help.

“The victim was quite scared at the time she reached our office. She was not able to narrate her ordeal properly, till our women volunteers helped her calm down,” said Kumar Dhanraj, president of Crime India Force, an NGO working in the field of consoling social-injustice victims.

The victim called police control room to narrate the incident in presence of the volunteers of the NGO. She approached Shivaji Nagar police station on Thursday morning and got an FIR registered.
