Three Injured in Kohima Bomb Blast

April 17, 2015: Three persons were injured, one of them grievously, after a high intensity crude bomb exploded at NH 2 at Lerie colony around 9:45am Thursday morning. A motor garage mechanic, who was among the injured, was critically wounded after a shrapnel from the bomb hit his internal organ.

The victim, aged around 20 years, and hailing from Manipur was working at a motor garage by the road side when the blast occurred. Among the other two who suffered minor injuries includes a driver to DFO Phek, who received injuries to his ear. SP Kohima, Joseph Hesso informed that the bomb was planted along the road side.

The bomb went off right at the time the government vehicle belong to DFO Phek passed. The vehicle suffered some damage. This is the second blast which occurred at Lerie colony within a span of two days. On Wednesday, an explosion had taken place just 70 meters away from today’s blast site. No casualty was reported. Vehicles and houses were also partially damaged in the blast.

The SP informed that no one has claimed responsibility over the blast. He also declined to divulge any details while maintaining that it is too early to come to any conclusion and it might hamper the investigation process. Following Thursday’s blast, security has been beefed up in Kohima town, the SP informed.
