March 19: In an act of heroism, a 14-year-old girl in Darlawn in Aizawl
district sacrificed her own life to save others. Krista Rohlupuii, a
resident of Venghlun locality in Darlawn, drowned in Tuivawl, as she was
trying to save her two drowning friends.
Students of Darlawn
Public Middle School went for a post examination sightseeing to Rungdil
where they stopped at Tuivawl river bank to have lunch. Rohlupuii, a
class seven student, and her four other friends went into the river.
Rohlupuii went to the rescue of her friends when she saw them drowning,
managing to push them to the banks, while she herself,too weak to swim
back, drowned. Her body was later recovered with the help of local
farmers and taken to her home town.
