Cousin shoots cousin dead

Imphal, March 29 2016:
In a macabre and shocking incident, a 31-year-old cop allegedly shot his
cousin brother to death at Mongshangei at around 1 pm today.

The
deceased has been identified as Laishram Chinglemba alias Naoba (30)
s/o Govind and the accused as Laishram Birjit alias Chaoba (31) s/o Dr
Ranbir of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel.

Birjit has surrendered to Singjamei police along with the body of the deceased.

The
deceased was a Sub-Inspector on probation of Manipur Police Department
while the accused has recently completed police training in Shillong.

Family members said that Birjit has been constantly threatening to kill Naoba ever since he returned home from Shillong.

Naoba’s
elder sister said that one night some months back, Birjit knocked their
door with an iron rod and asked Naoba to come out.

She said that Birjit also threatened to kill Naoba that night.

She said that some family members saw Birjit taking away Naoba in his
white Maruti Swift car from their residential gate towards Haobam Marak
at around 12.30 pm today.

They informed other family members and went towards Hoabam Marak side to search them, she said.

After around 30 minutes, they went to Singjamei police station to lodge a complaint.

However, they were not allowed to enter the police station by the police, she said.

Later, police told them that Birjit had shot Naoba dead and surrendered before them, she said.

A reliable source said that Birjit took his cousin brother to Mongshangei in his car.

He stopped the car near CRPF camp, Mongshangei and fired at Naopa’s chest and left knee.

After
Naoba succumbed to the bullet injuries, Birjit drove to Singjamei
police station along with the body and surrendered there.

Later, angry locals stormed the house of the accused and dismantled it.

Birjit’s family members fled the house before locals came there.

They also vandalised a clinic run by the father of the accused at their residential complex.

The
angry mob took a Spark car (MN01-K-1493) from Birjit’s residential
complex to Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai and burnt it down there.

In the presence of an Executive Magistrate, forensic experts carried out inquest of the body and the car used by Birjit.

The body has been deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem examination.
