Manipuri nurse reported missing in Delhi

A 24-year-old nurse from Manipur went missing from outside her hostel in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area, police said today.

The woman is employed at a private nursing home in Janakpuri West and lives in a hostel nearby. Her relatives in Manipur have been informed about the matter.

Yesterday afternoon, the woman was heading back towards her hostel with a female colleague when a hostel staff, known to both of them, met them on the road outside the hostel premises, a senior police official said.

The woman from Manipur asked her colleague to leave as the man wanted to talk to her about something important in private. Her colleague left and waited for her at the hostel but she did not return.

She, along with other hostel mates, then started looking for the hostel staff (who met her outside hostel) but he too could not be seen anywhere around, following which they informed the police this morning, the official said.

“A missing complaint has been lodged at Janakpuri police station and efforts are on to track the man and the woman, who are missing,” DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar said.

Considering its sensitivity, developments into the matter are being monitored by Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma himself.

During investigation, the police were told that the hostel staff had proposed to the woman earlier for marriage and she had rejected her proposal. However, these facts can be verified only when the missing persons are questioned, the senior police official said.

The woman’s friends have alleged that she has been abducted by the man but police said that they do not have any such leads till now which suggests so.

The mobile phones of both the hostel staff and the woman are switched off. Several teams have been formed to trace them. But no case has been registered in connection with the matter so far, the official added.
