Imphal, June 21 2016: A woman sustained injuries when a hand grenade hurled by some unidentified persons exploded inside a residential compound at Sagolband Ingudam Leirak at around 2.10 am today.
One hand grenade exploded inside the residential gate of one Gurumayum Dhanajit (42) who is a contractor of telecom companies, informed a source.
Neighbour Charoibam (O) Renubala (34) sustained injuries in the explosion as she was hit by splinters on the right wrist.
The injury is said to be of minor nature.
A portion of a compound wall and a car (Maruti A-Star) parked inside the residential compound were damaged by the impact of the explosion.
Later local womenfolk staged a protest demonstration denouncing the grenade attack.
Meanwhile, the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), through a press release issued by its information and publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei, has claimed responsibility for the grenade attack.
On the other hand, a hand grenade was found at the courtyard of one Moirangthem Kumar of Bamon Leikai Harikhagok, Imphal East district under Porompat police station at around 4.30 pm today.
Police have retrieved the grenade.
It is said that Moirangthem Kumar is a retired Mohori of IFCD.
