80% of rapes taking place in northeast are in states of Assam and Tripura

Assam and Tripura are the two states which share the shame of being the worst in terms of sexual assault against women in the Northeast of India

As per the data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) there have been 33,098 cases where the offenders were known to the victims.

Nearly 3.27 lakh cases of crimes against women were reported across the country. Of these over 1.3 lakh were sexual offences.

Sadly in the Northeast of India Assam has reported a high number of cases with  6,636 sexual offences against women, followed by 609 in Tripura.It maybe also stated that both these states are one of themes populated areas in the region and hence the likelihood of more offences.

Meghalaya which borders assam has come third with 231 cases and the state which has the lowest crime against women is Sikkim with 29 cases.

According to many there are various factors which contribute to growing sexual offence against women especially in border areas which also attract migrant workers.In many cases where the offender was known to the victim , these matters are seldom reported and brushed under the carpet ,authorities have stated.

Sexual crime does not have an ethnic pattern and a rapist is a rapist regardless fro which country,religion or social background he comes from say most activist.

The sexual offences cases included rape, attempt to commit rape, assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty and insult to modesty of women.
