Meet resolves to defeat divide and rule policy

IMPHAL, Dec 20: In the backdrop of the restive situation prevailing in
the State, a joint meeting of several ethnic groups was held today at
Hotel Imphal.
A 12-point resolution was adopted at the consultative
dialogue, one of which stated that all the people of Manipur should
stand united against any divide and rule policy.
Noting that Manipur
is home to more than 39 ethnic groups and communities, the joint
consultative meeting decided to appeal to all communities to refrain
from bandh /economic blockade and to resolve all issues through
dialogue.
To be vigilant against rising communalism and ethnicization in Manipur was another point of the 12-point resolution.

As agreed at the meeting, all mothers and leaders of Manipur would call
upon UNC, Govt of Manipur and other stake holders to withdraw the
economic blockade, counter blockade and other forms of bandh.
Recognition and respecting peace and reconciliation process to reduce the current crisis in Manipur was another point.
It resolved to appeal Government of Manipur for proper protection measures for common people.
Effective steps should be taken up to prevent attacks on religious spaces.
Mass awareness should be provided to ensure unity, diversity and peaceful co-existence in the region.

“We should appeal to all leaders to refrain from making Manipur and
North East India, a more violent conflict zone. We should collectively
work together for bringing peace and stand united and fight for our
rights in Manipur and North East States”, read another point of the
12-point resolution.
The consultative dialogue was organized by
Control Arms Foundation of India in collaboration with Manipur Women Gun
Survivors Network (MWGSN).
The meeting was presided by Binalakshmi Nepram, Founder Manipur Women Gun Survivor Network.

Retd Prof Rose Mangshi, president, Kuki Women Union; Khaidem Mani, Sr.
Advocate, Lourembam Nganbi, Meira Paibi leader, Felicita Songvah,
co-founder and chair of the Board of Chamroy Foundation; Pantibonliu
Golmei, president, Rongmei Women  Organization; Sitara Begum, Muslim
woman leader; Momon Leima, president Tami Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup;
Khupler Kom, president, Indigenous Minorities Organization, Potsangbam
Sonamani, retired senior SP and social activist; Mina Chothe, convenor
JAC against the killing of Hatneikim and social activist and others
attended the important consultation.
