Six women apply for Congress ticket

Imphal, January 24 2017: Six women candidates of Congress including Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai have submitted their nomination papers for the ensuing 11th State Assembly election, MPCC president TN Haokip told The Sangai Express today.

The Congress party will field candidates in all the 60 Assembly segments at the ensuing State Assembly election.

Issuance of nomination forms that began on December 28 last year, will continue till January 25 .

Till now, 70 candidates including 6 women, out of the total seven who took nomination forms, have submitted their nomination papers, TN Haokip said.

The women candidates who have submitted their nomination papers are, sitting MLA AK Mirabai in Patsoi AC; Manipur Pradesh Mahila
Congress Committee (MPMCC) president Loitongbam Tilotama in Langthabal AC; MPMCC general secretary RK Ranisana in Uripok AC; National Students’ Union of India general secretary Aribam Angellica in Konthoujam AC; Waikhom Shyama in Langthabal AC and Saba Dal Mahila Organisation member and Adhyaksha Haobijam Ithoibi in Oinam AC.

The seventh candidate who is yet to submit nomination paper is Tamenglong ADC member Hatling Doungel for Tamei AC.

The total number of candidates will be screened at the MPCC before sending a detailed report to the All India Congress Committee’s Central Committee, TN Haokip said.

The Central Committee will announce the final list of Congress candidates in the first week of February.

The selection will be merit based, TN Haokip assured.

“Election manifesto of MPCC will also be finalised today.

The points mentioned in the manifesto will be forwarded to the AICC Central leaders after finalisation.

Once the points are approved by the Central leaders, the MPCC will announce its election manifesto”, he said while expressing strong belief that the Congress party will win the majority in the ensuing Assembly election.

On reports that two sitting MLAs in the hill districts will contest election from BJP ticket, TN Haokip said, “We suspect that they (the
candidates) had been forced.

It is an unfortunate turn of event”, he stated.
