Assam: 20-year-old girl found dead under mysterious circumstances

Guwahati, December 5, 2017: A 20-year-old student who topped the Class XII examination in Assam (commerce) in 2015 was found dead with 95 per cent burn injuries in a rented house of her class mate here on Monday night.

Sweta Agarwala, a final year B Com student of K C Das Commerce College here was found dead inside the bathroom of her class mate Govind Singhal on Monday evening.

Police have arrested Govind, originally hailing from Rajasthan on suspicion of his role in the suspected murder or suicide case.

Govind, 21, lived in a rented house at Santipur Sluice Gate area here.

Sweta’s family said her mobile was found untraceable since Monday afternoon soon after her college was over. They alleged to police that she was abducted on her way back from college on Monday afternoon.

“She was brilliant and soft spoken girl and we don’t understand why this happened to her. We don’t believe she committed suicide. We demand police to carry out investigation properly and give justice to us,” said a family member.

The family also alleged possible rape and murder.

“The FIR lodged by her parents informed us that she was missing since 2pm. We received the complaint around 6pm and started investigations. Around 6.50pm, we recovered her body from the bathroom of Govind’s rented house,” police said.

Govind’s neighbour informed the police about smoke coming out from his house on Monday evening.

Police although said their probe and interrogation of the accused was underway to get to the exact cause of her death said it could be that she had an affair with the boy and committed suicide after some problem in their relationship.But they did not deny the possibility of murder too as suspected by the family.

She was the daughter of Om Prakash Agarwal, a tax consultant here.
