Inter-State gang selling illegal firearms busted

Two alleged members of an inter-State gang involved in selling illegal firearms procured from Madhya Pradesh in Delhi and National Capital Region have been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell.

A cache of 16 weapons, all semi-automatic sophisticated pistols, have purportedly been seized from the arrested person, said the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said the accused – Dinesh Dabur (25) and Sunil (27) – sourced the guns from the Balwadi area in Dhar district of M.P. and brought them to sell to criminal elements in Delhi and NCR.

Dinesh was the first to be arrested after the police nabbed him following a tip-off that he would come to deliver a consignment near Sarai Kale Khan ISBT.

“A thorough search led to the seizure of 10 pistols from him. During interrogation, he revealed that his accomplice Sunil carrying another consignment of six pistols was in Agra. The other consignment was also meant for supply in NCR. Following this we sent a team to Agra where a joint team of Special Cell and New Agra police station arrested him and seized the weapons in his possession,” said Mr. Yadav.

He said both the arrested accused have disclosed that they supply weapons to every part of the country.

“It is also revealed that both of them supply one such consignment every fortnight in Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Aligarh, Hathras and Delhi NCR,” said Mr. Yadav.

This is the first major seizure in the current year. In 2013, the Cell had arrested 33 gun runners leading to 196 arms.
