Day 1 : Week of Action Against Gun Violence in India


Over 80 Indian nationals from different parts of India and abroad have signed the petition on Arms Trade Treaty in just day one of Week of Action, 11 June 2007. More signatures are being collected in the days of Week of Action and will be submitted to the Government on 16 June 2007 to reiterate our demand for ending gun violence and for supporting the UN Secretary General’s Consultation on Arms Trade Treaty.

Day 2 : Week of Action Against Gun Violence in India


A) Series of op-ed articles on the issue of India and ATT, women and gun violence, children and guns, gun violence and health impact etc have been submitted for publication in the following newspapers:


1) The Hindu
2) Imphal Free Press
3) Shillong Times
4) Kangla Online
5) Rediffnews.com
6) The Women in International Perspective
7) Sangai Express
8) Sunday Indian


B) Preparation for submitting 543 petitions on Gun Violence & ATT to 543 members of Parliament on 16th June 07.


C) Distribute People’s Consultation on Arms Trade Treaty petition cards/ pens/ etc in various places such as schools, universities, cafes, NGOs, MNCs, slums, markets etc


D) Manipuri Women Gun Survivor Network will continue to collect testimonies of women gun survivors, help open bank accounts and find ways for their survival. We are trying to assess different vocational training skills for these women and also involve them in small scale work like weaving, orchid and mushroom farming etc
