Arms, ammo seized

Imphal, April 27 2017: A considerable number of arms and ammunition were seized by a combined team of Imphal West District Police and troops of 6 Assam Rifles from Heiroklen near Andro today.

Briefing media persons at his office this afternoon, Imphal West SP N Herojit said that the search operation was carried out under the command of DSP (Commando) Thangkhochon Haokip and Commando OC Inspector Thaingampou.

A number of weapons were found hidden inside a locked granary of one Suantak Lamthianlal Vaiphei (37) s/o Thangneigen at around 2.30 am.

The weapons recovered from the granary included two AK-47 assault rifles, one MA-3 assault rifle aka A-1, one pistol, seven magazines, three camouflage pouches and 215 rounds of ammunition.

Along with seizure of the weapons, Suantak Lamthianlal Vaiphei has also been pulled up.

He would be handed over to Andro police station together with the seized weapons and articles, Herojit said.

Quoting Suantak’s disclosure, the SP informed that the weapons belong to the United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA).

However, it could not be ascertained as of now whether Suantak is a cadre of USRA or not.
