3 soldiers burnt alive, 5 injured as Army vehicle overturns in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar

Three soldiers were burnt alive and five injured as a Gypsy van reportedly overturned and fire erupted on the Raziasar-Chhatargarh road in Sriganganagar district in the wee hours of Thursday.

A source said that eight soldiers of Bathinda-based army unit were travelling from Suratgarh in the vehicle when it suddenly went out of control, overturned and fire erupted. Three charred bodies were found at the spot. The five injured soldiers have been admitted to the government hospital in Suratgarh.

Raziasar police station in-charge Vikram Tiwari said the accident took place near Burji (Pillar) No 330 of Indira Gandhi Canal on Raziasar-Chhatargarh road at around 1.30 am. Eight soldiers of the Army were going to some place in Gypsy. Suddenly the vehicle reportedly became uncontrollable, rammed into shrubs, hit a tree along the road and overturned. This triggered a fierce fire in the Gypsy. The soldiers did not get a chance to get out.

The SHO said some people rushed towards the site of mishap seeing the flames rising. The villagers rescued five soldiers but three others could not be saved.

The deceased have been identified as Subedar A Mamager, and Havildars Dev Kumar and SK Shukla.

Among the injured were SK Prajapati (35), Ankit Vajpayee (34), Umesh Yadav (27) Ashok Ojha (28) and Bhanwer Lal Bablu (27).

The ambulance of Emergency Service 108 was called to shift the injured soldiers to hospital. Three of them have suffered grievous injuries.

Police sources said the villagers who reached the spot reportedly informed the civil fire tender service in Suratgarh after seeing a fierce fire but timely help could not be made available.

As soon as the accident was reported, senior army officers arrived at the scene. The army team has initiated an investigation. Police said a case of accident is being registered.
