ITANAGAR, March 27 – The Aalo Police has arrested the Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra’s son for allegedly murdering a youth by shooting him from point blank range from his pistol.
Police said, 30-year-old Kajum Bagra was arrested in connection with the murder of Kenjum Kamsi, who was a Congress leader, at Aalo on Sunday night.
Incidentally, the 30-year-old was taken into police custody last night itself moment after he surrendered before the Aalo Police. The police also seized the firearm used by the accused in committing the crime.
Meanwhile, ‘shocked’ at the killing of its secretary Kenjum Kamsi, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) demanded that the accused should be awarded exemplary punishment to prevent such heinous crimes in future. It further demanded the Deputy Speaker to step down “on moral ground”.
“Kajum using ‘MLA vehicle’ of his father and committing such heinous crime proved the common saying ‘Like father, like son’. The tragic incident has reflected the true colour of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to which the Deputy Speaker belongs raising a serious question – if savior turns killer, (then) where would the masses go?”, quipped the APCC.
It further said, “While exemplary punishment should be given to the murderer to prevent such crimes in future, but the murder is the best example for the people to judge if the BJP promises match its action or not?
“Moreover being first such incident by any MLA’s son in the State,” the APCC said, “the Deputy Speaker should resign on moral ground forthwith for the police, who have arrested the accused and seized the vehicle, to conduct probe without any influence.”
Strongly condemning the last night’s shootout incident at Aalo leading to the untimely demise of senior youth activist from West Siang district Kenjum Kamsi, the Galo Students’ Union (GSU) demanded for exemplary punishment to all the accused under relevant sections of law.
“The authorities concerned including the Aalo Police should see to it that the family members of late Kamsi, who was also closely associated with the Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association (PAYWA) and various other social organizations, not be deprived of justice at any cost,” said the students’ body. At the same time, it appealed for calm by one and all at this moment of crisis.
