Rapist sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

Correspondent KOHIMA, APR 20 (NPN): On Thursday, Kohima District and Sessions Court convicted 28-year old Thanwalo Magh of rape, sentencing him to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000.

His conviction follows an investigation by Investigating Officer (IO)/Sub-Inspector, Livinuo and her team, where Thanwalo was accused of having raped a 61-year old widow on August 22, 2015.

Informing the judgement to media persons, Public Prosecutor (PP), representing the state government, Kathu Rengma, said principal District and Sessions Judge, Y. Maongkaba Imchen, after being convinced with the evidences pronounced the order on April 11.
He said the accused was charge-sheeted for two offences, rape and causing hurt to the victim.

Lauding the investigating officer and her team, the PP said they have done a commendable job in investigating the case.

Stating that of late there have been reports of many rape cases, Kathu said in such crime related cases, the Court requires cooperation from the victim, public and police.

In this regard, the PP has appealed the citizens to fully cooperate with the court so that the wrongdoers could be punished as per the law of the land.
