Delhi police reiterates commitment to work with CAFI on gun violence reduction; posters on gun violence put up at Delhi’s Arms Licensing Office

June 6, New Delhi: On the second day of the observation of the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence, several CAFI members met with three top police officers belonging to Delhi’s arms licensing unit namely, Mrs Sundari Nanda, Head of Delhi’s Arms Licensing Unit, Ms Meenu Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner Police, Arms Licensing and Mr Rajneesh Gupta, Assistance Commissioner Police, Arms Licensing,


A series of 5 posters addressing gun violence in India was later put up at various strategic locations in the office of the arms licensing office and pamphlets on Arms Trade Treaty in English and Hindi were distributed to various people present in the office who had come to ask for or renew an arms license.

An agreement was reached between CAFI and Delhi Police, Arms Licensing Unit to work together to organise a symposium to address various loopholes in the Indian Arms Act of 1958 and also to go to different schools and colleges of Delhi so that children can be educated about the dangers of a weaponised society. Delhi Police also handed to CAFI a series of arms dealers based in Delhi and an agreement was reached to share data and expertise on gun violence reduction.
